What is ECC Performance Art?

ECC Performance Art is an online teaching and research platform dedicated to strengthening the discipline of performance art by providing artists, scholars, and curators with a range of tools and insights for their professional growth. ECC Performance Art offers an extensive course program related to key aspects of performance art practice and  its theoretical investigation. Artistic and research projects developed in collaboration with ECC Performance Art cross theoretical and disciplinary boundaries and pioneer approaches to how we think about, study, exhibit, and produce performance art.

ECC Performance Art is the first online educational institute devoted to performance art exclusively andt fills the gap that continues to exist around the education of performance artists and theorists in the traditional institutional context. Through its interdisciplinary scope, ECC Performance Art aims to stimulate reciprocal exchange and inspiration and fosters innovative approaches to both artistic practice and scholarly investigation. Acknowledging the many facets of performance art and determined to broaden the existing canon, ECC Performance Art’s goal is to increase visibility for the discipline in all its global manifestations and to forge a community of performance art professionals for the future. ECC Performance Art is part of the European Cultural Centre network.

The European Cultural Centre

A cultural organization founded by the Dutch artist Rene Rietmeyer and originating back to 2002. Today we are a continuously growing group of mainly young people who like to make a positive difference, because we care. We care about humans and about what should happen with our world, about where we should go. Of course, we are aware that we can only make a small difference, but we want to do our best, doing nothing is not an option.

We created a dynamic organization which continues to establish more cultural centres devoted to cultural exchanges, organizing worldwide exhibitions, symposia and all kinds of cultural projects with not only Europeans but people from all around the world. This is to create awareness, to strengthen our cultural commons, to cherish our uniqueness and to learn about the qualities within our differences.

We believe that progress is best made by raising a deeper awareness about serious topics. We try to bring people from very different cultures together in the hope that we will all learn from each other. Naturally we have our own opinions and we do like to promote our own values, values in which we strongly believe. Nevertheless we are a non-political and non-religious organization, open to all people, to all points of view, for as long as they respect the freedom, the dignity and rights of every single living being.
